We begin with an existing textile and ask what becomes visible when it is considered as an object in its own right.
Selection
Color, repetition, seams and proportion guide the selection. We consider both the full silhouette and the smallest visible detail. Works sit alongside one another by visual relationship, not in a hierarchy of price.
Context
A kimono can be clothing, a patterned surface and an outline of the human figure. The gallery brings these readings together. The work remains a textile with its own history, including parts of that history we may not know.
Documentation
Original front and back photographs show each object. Maker, date, material, dimensions, condition and provenance are recorded only when verified. A presentation date is not a production date.
Acquisitions
For availability and further details, contact the gallery. We confirm the individual object, its condition, asking price and delivery arrangements before any acquisition. No payment is taken on this website.
