Assessment

Material, lining, dye, embroidery and prior repairs can affect safe handling. These details are being verified for each work. General notes do not replace an assessment by a textile conservator.

Storage

Storage and support should be selected for the individual object. Contact the gallery for its condition record and any confirmed handling notes.

Cleaning

Do not assume that a textile can be washed or treated at home. A specialist should assess the actual object before cleaning or stain treatment.

Display

Discuss light, support and mounting with a qualified textile conservator. We do not recommend a permanent mounting method from photographs alone.
